Marriage records [microform], 1860-1878.

Marriage records may include bonds, books, certificates, licenses, marriage registers or ministers' returns. Indexes to marriage records may be available. Marriage licenses were issued by the county clerk upon completion of the bond and give permission for a marriage ceremony to be performed. The license was presented to the person performing the marriage, either the minister, judge, etc. Marriage certificates signify that the marriage occurred. The certificate was completed by the minister or judge and then given to the marrying couple.

Clay, the forty-seventh Kentucky county, was formed in 1806 from parts of Floyd, Knox, and Madison Counties. Manchester is the county seat. The county is named for General Green Clay.
